Bird Flu

Definition:

• viruses infect birds.

Causes:

• Close contact with infected birds.
• Contact with  surfaces that have been contaminated by the birds.

Symptoms:

• Cough
• Sore throat
• Runny or stuffy nose
• Muscle or body aches
• Fatigue
• Headaches
• Eye redness
• Difficulty breathing
• Fever

Treatment:

• antiviral medicines
• Vaccination ( only with an outbreak)

Prevention:

• follow recommended bio security and infection control practices
• use of appropriate personal protective equipment
• careful attention to hand hygiene
• seasonal influenza vaccination every year
